Anti-abortion counseling in Russia : the role of gynecologists and psychologists

Dr Mona Claro, associate professor in sociology and gender studies at Liège University, will present preliminary results of the survey she is conducting in collaboration with Lenny Smirnova. This survey deals with one the dimensions of the contemporary Russian pronatalist policy: anti-abortion measures, including mandatory pre-abortion counseling conducted by gynecologists, psychologists, or orthodox priests. According to a decree, the goal of these measures is to convince 15% of the applicants to give birth instead of having an abortion. This survey investigates how health institutions implement this policy, based on a large corpus of publications written by the professionals who participate in its implementation.

Mona Claro’s presentation will be discussed by Dr Clémentine Fauconnier (Université de Haute Alsace, Mulhouse).

This session will take place on Friday 25 October, 15:00-17:00, at the Auditorium de l'humathèque, campus Condorcet, Aubervilliers (Métro : Front Populaire).

It will also be possible to attend the seminar online, at this link–though please be advised that it does not work on Safari browsers.
